Kristiansund is located at the outermost edge of the northwest coastline of Norway. The beautiful natural harbor is the heart of the town, which is surrounded by four islands connected by bridges and the small traditional passengerboat called "Sundbåt".

Kristiansund has a over 260 year history as a city, but is in every sense a modern city.

With its 23,000 residents it is of modest proportions, but with nonetheless something of a big- city quality. Local neighboring towns also make Kristiansund the representative for more than 40,000 residents.

There is a teeming business life and rich arts and recreational possibilities, in proximity to and interaction with lush park facilities, forests and an exciting coastal landscape.

Because of its unique location, marine and maritime activities have become a natural and important part of local trade and industry.

Kristiansund has in the last fifteen years experienced a rapid development as a supply town for offshore activity outside of Mid-Norway.
